Sicilian Fishermen.
Sicily has one of the largest fishing fleets in the Mediterranean with more than a thousand registered boats. The sea between Sicily, Tunisia and Libya is one of the most productive areas for fishing in the whole Mediterranean.
The towns of Sciacca and Mazara on the South West coast of Sicily have thriving fishing ports with upwards of a hundred boats a day unloading their catches of anchovies, sardines and a whole variety of other fish and seafood. Most of the catch is sold on the quay and is shipped all over Italy. The quayside is a bustle of activity with people unloading, buying and bargaining for the catch – The photographer goes un-noticed amongst the chaos.
